About Dr. Jim McAdam

Dr. Jim McAdam MBE is one of Ireland’s foremost voices on agroforestry and a lifelong advocate for farming with trees. With decades of research experience at AFBI Loughgall, Jim has helped shape national understanding of silvopasture systems and how integrating trees into farmland can benefit productivity, biodiversity, and climate resilience. He is a founding member of the Irish Agroforestry Forum and continues to support knowledge transfer through his work with the Growing Innovation Network (GrowIN), mentoring farmers exploring tree-based solutions.

Awarded an MBE for his contribution to agricultural science, Jim brings a rare combination of academic insight and grounded, farmer-focused advice.

At Fields Good, he returns to lead the Agroforestry Marquee, following last year’s talk that drew one of the biggest outdoor crowds of the day, almost biblical! Expect practical knowledge, big picture thinking, and a few great stories from the frontlines of Ireland’s agroforestry journey.
