About Edward Ellison
Edward’s family has been farming in County Antrim for the almost 4 centuries. He currently manages 370 acres, the majority of which is grassland. This also incorporates around 80 acres of raised bog and around 30 acres of woodland. Edwards works with the Ulster Wildlife Trust on a project to raise water levels on the bog in partnership with other landowners in the area.
He also runs a herd of a native bred suckler cows, namely Hereford and Shorthorn Beef in a regenerative system. They have a strict policy on using very limited chemicals on the farm and veterinary medicines are only used when essential. Edward also has a nature reserve on the farm of around 10 acre’s in which they created a number of ponds, which has been incredible for the wildlife that has been brought to the farm. They have also been experimenting with willow grazing in Number of trials on farm.
