About Klaus Laitenberger

Klaus Laitenberger is a highly respected organic gardener, author, and horticultural consultant renowned for his expertise in cultivating food tailored specifically to the Irish climate. Originally from South Germany, Laitenberger moved to the West of Ireland in 1999 and has since made significant contributions to the region’s organic farming movement, serving as the Head Gardener at both the Organic Centre in County Leitrim and during the extensive restoration of the historic Lissadell House gardens in County Sligo.

Klaus currently works as an inspector for the Organic Trust Ltd which certifies organic farms and gardens in Ireland. He also lectures at the MSc course in Organic Horticulture in Skibbereen, Co.Cork with UCC as well as in Croghan Organic Garden in Co. Roscommon.

Alongside his wife, Joanna, he runs Green Vegetable Seeds, a company specialising in resilient vegetable varieties, and has self-published several definitive, practical guides for growers, including “Vegetables for the Irish Garden”, “Vegetables and Herbs for the Greenhouse and Polytunnel” and “A Vegetable Grower’s Handbook”.
