About Richard Winspear

Richard is Hope Farm’s agricultural advisor.  25 years ago, Richard was involved in a project to buy an arable farm in Cambridgeshire, and manage it as a productive, profitable arable farm whilst also restoring nature.

It became known as RSPB’s Hope Farm, over the last 25 years, the farmland bird numbers have more than doubled, the butterfly numbers have quadrupled and Bumblebee numbers are on average 16x higher than on a neighbouring farm without the environmental features.

Initially, nature was restored by taking marginal land out of production to create wildlife habitats, but over the last 10 years, they have looked to manage their crops in a more nature-friendly way, and in the process restore their soils, natural pest control and pollinators to improve agricultural productivity.

Richard brought together the expertise of a wide range of wildlife organisations to develop the 6 key actions to restore nature on farmland.

At Fields good, Richard can be found speaking on the panel; “When Land Comes Alive: Ponds, Wings and Buzzy Things”.
